Does your state permit fireworks sales?

Question by The Glorious S.O.B.: Does your state permit fireworks sales?
I’m a Californian, where fireworks sales are legal, depending on the types of pyrotechnics. Here in Bakersfield, you’ll c fireworks stands in every square kilometer; my church used to sell fireworks until recently due to budget restraints, I think. I don’t use fireworks these days, not since I was a kid. My parents used 2 buy fireworks but now have kinda been Independence Day Scrooges, u’no, staying inside watching TV while u can hear the loud booms of fireworks from the show hosted by the country club a few blocks away. They rationalize by saying it’s 2 hot @ night (The low temp for this 4th’ll be 72°.) Also, I remember visiting my relatives in N.J. around the 4th & visited NYC; I know that NJ & NY don’t have fireworks sales.

So I ask any Answerers living in or have visited the other forty-seven states if you can buy fireworks & if u also have family & friends light firecrackers responsibly on the street or anywhere else. & Happy Independence Day!

I live in Kentucky and you have to go to neighboring states to get any good fireworks. All you can really buy around here are spark fountains which are lame.

I live in a state that used to sell a wide variety of interesting fireworks when I was a kid and has slowly over the years made more and more of them illegal in the name of “safety”. And yet I can get in my car and drive 6 miles over the border of another state that is pretty much identical in terrain and purchase anything I want from saturn missles to roman candles. So am I supposed to believe that because they are over the river that their state is somehow magically protected from anyone having an accident and that nothing in their state is apparently flammable? The ban on cool fireworks here has nothing at all to do with safety. Once again, as is the case with local governments from the state level to the town level, it is about money. They write hundreds of thousands of dollars in illegal fireworks possession tickets. That is a huge amount of money for the state and local municipalities all done in the name of safety. What a crock. Other states manage to not burn their cities to the ground with these fireworks so am I to believe that oregonians are too stupid to handle fireworks or perhaps I am to believe that the columbia river is a magical shield protecting washingtonians from bad things. What a crock. Just like the total ban on the possession of marijuana has nothing to do with protecting society. We have the highest incarcerated population in the world and 72% of all felons in jail are their on minor drug possession or transportation charges. Are we safer because of this? No. But the largest union in the US, the correction workers union, sure does manage to keep the money flowing for their members, not to mention the judges, cops, DA’s, Defense attorney’s, parole officers, parole board members, prison nurses, sherriff’s officers, DEA agents, Etc… The list goes on and on for the people that benefit by creating a poor serf level class that is in and out of jail, on probation or parole. But I digress.
