Are fireworks permitted?

Question by moon_wish: Are fireworks permitted?
I’m wondering if our city allows fireworks or not? You know… typical fireworks for the 4th of July? Fountains, sparklers, chickens, that kind of stuff… I read our city ordinances, but the wording is too confusing for me. Can you help me out?

Our city ordinances say this:

Fireworks.
It is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to sell, offer for sale, expose for sale, use, discharge or explode within the city, any blank cartridge, toy pistol, toy cannon or cane in which explosives are used, or the type of balloon requiring fire underneath to propel the same, firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, Roman candles, aerial salutes, bombs or other fireworks of any kind whatsoever, except as herein provided. Nothing in the foregoing sentence shall prohibit the sale or use of fireworks or pyrotechnic displays given by any organization, amusement park, the officials in charge of any public park, any civic organization or group of individuals, provided they have first obtained a permit from the board of aldermen for such displays, or the sale or use of blank cartridges for theatrical purposes, signal purposes in athletic contests or sporting events, or for the use of police or military organizations.

It seems you cannot use buy or sell fireworks without a permit, within city limits that is.

  1. Yes….

  2. fireworks are illegal where you live.

  3. More rediculous laws that prevent people from celebrating Independance Day. Obviously, more laws in place to prevent people from hurting themselves or others.

What ever happend to this being a free country?
